You are not a real loser like I am.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sensoryconvent.substack.com\/p\/get-off-my-internet\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/NnF8JpX.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Some People Aren\u2019t Meant for the Internet, and You\u2019re Probably One of Them.<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Nazi salute aside, it\u2019s been an eventful month or so for the social web-propaganda device. <a href=\"https:\/\/augustlamm.substack.com\/p\/you-dont-need-a-smartphone\">Downgrading to dumbphones<\/a> is becoming a luxury, elitist status symbol. <a href=\"https:\/\/substack.com\/@thebulwark\/note\/c-88364309\">Trump\u2019s agreement with the CCP to temporarily shut down TikTok<\/a> was probably deployed as a psyop to create the Trump Youth. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liberation.fr\/economie\/medias\/liberation-quitte-x-20250121_CD2Z7BQ4J5C7DKNZTNAYU7WRVQ\/\">Another mass exodus <\/a>from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/next\/2025\/01\/15\/french-group-encourages-mass-departure-from-elon-musks-x-platform-on-us-inauguration-day\">Twitter<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/luvrgworl\/status\/1884323172071399463\">Tiktok<\/a>, Facebook\/<a href=\"https:\/\/jpthealth.substack.com\/p\/2025-is-the-year-you-delete-social\">Instagram<\/a> is currently underway. We are made to pour our vital energy into the digital; to turn our psychic machinations into coded-libations \u2014 spilling the contents of our interiors into the restricted access, privatized external container of the corporate data facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As popular backlash grows, and calls to \u201creturn to real world\u201d proliferate, a subtle confession seems to go unnoticed: to reject the digital world is to humblebraggingly admit that one had the option to live in the embodied world to begin with. <em>They have a world to return to<\/em>, and they chose, or \u201cwere coerced,\u201d as many of them argue, into surrendering their lives to the internet. They have, what Marc Andreessen accurately calls \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/open.substack.com\/pub\/niccolo\/p\/the-dubrovnik-interviews-marc-andreessen?r=412b&amp;selection=a16ad9dd-91cb-4e08-b983-938ed5b9d09b&amp;utm_campaign=post-share-selection&amp;utm_medium=web\">reality privilege.<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cA small percent of people live in a real-world environment that is rich, even overflowing, with glorious substance, beautiful settings, plentiful stimulation, and many fascinating people to talk to, and to work with, and to date. ( . . . )<br>Everyone else, the vast majority of humanity, lacks Reality Privilege\u2014their online world is, or will be, immeasurably richer and more fulfilling than most of the physical and social environment around them in the quote-unquote real world.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Reality Privileged, of course, call this conclusion dystopian, and demand that we prioritize improvements in reality over improvements in virtuality. To which I say: reality has had 5,000 years to get good, and is clearly still woefully lacking for most people; I don&#8217;t think we should wait another 5,000 years to see if it eventually closes the gap. With a computer or computerphone, we can all possess metaverse privilege. However, not everyone will be able to enjoy a lovely, nutritious dinner, theatre show, party with friends and family, then return to their immaculate home full of satin, biological cotton, and silk.
